Jeremy Haneman

Director

I’ve worked as a conductor and musical director for over 30 years, specialising in working with choirs and opera. I co-founded the Mixed Up Chorus in 2014 along with Holly Jones which is how we met and have loved working with her ever since! Music and choirs are my life - I was the Community Chorus Director for the Royal Opera House Covent Garden from 2011-2020 and musical director of the 140-voice Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus. Some memorable performances for the Royal Opera House include the ROH Season Launch, the Open Up Launch, the Deloitte Ignite Festival, conducting the premieres of All Change, Ebb and Flow and Fused 5th Birthday Celebration, three newly devised and fully staged 'opera mash ups' of works from many different operas, as well as premieres of commissions from living composers.

I also conduct prize-winning choirs for City Law Firms Linklaters and Taylor Wessing. I am the Artistic Director of Thames Opera Company and a Council member of the Association of British Choral Directors for whom I have delivered many workshops and presentations. I moved to London from Sydney in 1996 and then for five years I led the London Gay Men’s Chorus who grew in that time from 15 to 150 singers, and I also conducted Morley College Choir, the Amici Chamber Choir and I have also been a musical director for One Day One Choir a global annual movement for World Peace Day that involved over a million singers in 2016. I have conducted concerts in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Opera House and major venues and cathedrals across Europe, USA and Australia. I also worked in Sweden where I conducted international choirs such as the prize-winning Manado State University Choir from Indonesia and the acclaimed Voces Nordicae from Stockholm. For seven years I was the Chairman of Hafla, a registered charity that created cultural events which brought together Jewish and Arabic people. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts for whom I delivered the inaugural workshop on the power of community singing. I did my training at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the University of Cambridge.
